Creating a quiz in Studio
Anyone can publish on QuizzyApp. The editor lives in the Studio (Hub → Studio → New quiz) and is organised as a short set of steps. Your first ten quizzes are free; Premium removes the cap.
Title first
A quiz can be saved with nothing but a title. That is deliberate: it lets you invite co-creators before a single question exists, so a group can build a quiz together from the start. A quiz with no questions stays private whatever its visibility setting, and cannot be published until it has at least one.
The editor auto-saves a draft on the device you are using every few seconds, and offers to resume it next time you open the editor. Drafts are local — they do not sync between devices until you save the quiz itself.
Step 1 — Basics
- Banner. Optional, but quizzes with one get noticed first in Explore.
- Title and description. The description appears on the quiz page and in search, so say what the quiz covers, what level it is pitched at and where the material comes from.
- Category. Required — it is how players find the quiz. If the category has topics, you can also pick a topic for the quiz, and for individual questions; topics are what weak-topic tracking is built on, so tagging accurately makes your quiz more useful to the people who play it.
Step 2 — Questions
A quiz can hold up to 200 questions. Each one is either multiple choice — between two and six options, one of them correct — or true/false. Tap the circle beside an option to mark it as the answer.
- Explanation. Optional, and the single most valuable thing you can add. It is shown in the post-attempt review, and in Revision and Preview modes if you enable explanations under Rules of play.
- Image. Premium creators can attach a diagram, map or figure to a question. Images up to 1 MB are accepted and compressed on your device before upload.
- Time limit. With per-question timing, pick a preset (15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 seconds) or type your own. The option is hidden when the quiz uses a single whole-quiz timer.
- Duplicate and delete. Duplicate a question to reuse its structure; deleting is permanent once you save.
If you would rather not type every question, the AI draft button (Premium) writes a first draft from notes, a document, a link or a photo, or extracts the questions from a past paper you already have. You review and edit every question before it goes anywhere — see AI quiz drafts.
Step 3 — Pricing
Free by default. You can instead charge a one-time entry fee, or a recurring subscription that renews until the player cancels. Prices are in naira, payment is handled by Paystack inside the app, and you can change the pricing model at any time. Only the quiz's owner can set the price — co-creators can see it but not change it. How the money is split is explained in Earning as a creator.
Step 4 — Rules of play
These settings shape what a player experiences. All of them are optional.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Visibility | Public quizzes appear in Explore and search. Private ones are visible only to you (and, for circle quizzes, to approved members of that circle). |
| Difficulty | Easy, medium or hard. Shown on the quiz page and used as a filter. |
| Learning modes | Quiz mode (timed and scored) is always on. Enabling learning modes also offers Revision — answer with instant feedback — and Preview — browse the answers without playing. |
| Show explanations | Reveals your explanations in Revision and Preview modes. |
| 25% teaser | Shows the first quarter of the questions, with options but no answers, on the quiz page so non-players can judge the level. It also makes the quiz eligible for a public page on this site. You can separately hide the Preview chip so players cannot browse the answers before an attempt. |
| Timer mode | Per question, or one countdown for the whole quiz. Whole-quiz mode lets players revisit questions and change answers, and switches speed scoring off. |
| Speed scoring | Faster correct answers raise the percentage score. XP is unaffected either way. |
| Answer changes | In Quiz mode with per-question timing, let a player re-pick before moving on. Off means one shot per question. |
| Randomise | Shuffle question order for each participant, and/or shuffle the A–D option order within each question. |
For a circle quiz there is a further Assignment step: a start and due date, so members can only play during that window. Leave it empty and the quiz is available immediately.
Publishing and editing
Publish once there is at least one question. You can edit a published quiz at any time — questions, settings and pricing — and the changes apply to future attempts. Player statistics stay attached to the quiz. Deleting a quiz is permanent.
Working with co-creators
Premium creators can invite co-authors from the editor. Rather than searching for someone, you create an invite link and set the share of future paid plays it carries; whoever accepts gets edit access and that share. Requests to join a quiz, and invites you have received, are listed under Studio → Requests and Studio → Invites. The owner keeps control of pricing and can remove a collaborator, who then loses edit access and stops earning a share from that point.
A few things that make a quiz worth playing
- Write the explanation before you write the distractors. If you cannot say why an answer is right, the question is probably testing recall of a phrasing rather than understanding.
- Use topics. A quiz tagged by topic teaches the app where a player is weak; an untagged one only produces a percentage.
- Give the description real information: syllabus, level, source. It is what appears in search and on the public page.
- Enable the 25% teaser. Players who can see the level are far more likely to start, and far less likely to leave a poor review.
Try it in the app. Everything on this page is free to start with. Open QuizzyApp, or browse the published quizzes first. Something not covered here? The support page has the questions we get most.
